Multiple wins for Higgins in Nextspace digital twins trial

Accessing plant data difficult and time-consuming before Nextspace

Higgins came to Nextspace with a problem: the documentation for their plants was too large and difficult to work with. Breakdowns within the plant were costing them too much in time, effort and money.  Additionally, generating data analytical capability was limited.

Higgins is a leading manufacturer of bitumen-based products, bitumen equipment and road signage. They provide rural and urban road maintenance throughout New Zealand and Fiji. They also design and build major infrastructure projects including wind farms, airport runways and port hardstand container infrastructure.
It took me 5 minutes to start using it and about 30 minutes to train up colleagues in other departments, in order to integrate their data.

Nextspace opens up data visualization from the macro to the micro

Higgins worked with Nextspace to help with developing a digital twin of their recently built polymer-modified bitumen plant.  Following the project, they were amazed at the ability to access very detailed data in Nextspace.
The depths and benefits of Nextspace have been huge and unexpected. The details of the plant parts, the types of data we could integrate, what we could visualize and how we could visualize it, seems to be endless.
They’re now considering a business case to create an accurate and highly detailed asset register of all of their plants right throughout New Zealand and Fiji.

Higgins has also earmarked their digital twins for use in health & safety programs and new staff inductions. They see this as significantly reducing risk for staff when they are new and learning, and realized they can easily introduce VR simulation training.
